540 extensions are cheaper over five years if you register at one registrar and move the name to another before it renews. Each extension's page shows the exact steps. 359 more are closed .brand registries that nobody can buy — we say so on the page instead of showing an empty price table.

Domain price comparison, answered
01How much does a domain name cost per year?
Between about $5 and $60 a year for most extensions, and the spread is the point. A .com renews around $11–15 wherever you buy it; .xyz and .top renew under $15; .io, .ai and most two-letter extensions renew above $50. The first-year price you are shown is often a fraction of that, so the renewal column here is the one to read.
02Which domain extension is cheapest?
Cheapest to register and cheapest to own are different questions. Sorted by first year the board opens with extensions under a dollar; sorted by five-year cost the order changes completely, because several of those renew above thirty. The five-year column is the honest answer.
03How often do domain prices change, and how current is this?
Registrars change prices a few times a year and registries raise wholesale prices annually — Verisign has raised .com every year it is allowed to. This board is rebuilt every morning from each registrar's own published list, so a change on their side shows here the next day, not whenever someone edits a page by hand.
04Where do these domain prices come from?
From the registrars themselves. Each publishes a price list, and the build reads those lists directly every day rather than copying another comparison site. Prices are shown in US dollars excluding VAT, converted at the day's rate.
05Why is the renewal price different from the price I am quoted?
Because the quote is a first-year promotion and the renewal is the shelf price. That gap is the single most expensive thing about buying a domain, which is why every row here shows registration and renewal side by side rather than one behind a click.
06Is the cheapest registrar the same for every extension?
No, and nobody wins across the board. The registrar cheapest on .com is mid-table on .dev, and the one cheapest on .dev may not sell .io at all. That is why the board compares per extension instead of naming an overall winner.
07Can I register a domain for multiple years up front?
At most registrars, up to ten. It locks in today's price against registry increases, which on an extension that raises yearly is worth more than a first-year discount. The three, five and ten-year columns show what each term actually costs.
08Do I need to buy WHOIS privacy separately?
At some registrars, yes — it is a paid add-on that quietly changes which one is cheapest. The WHOIS privacy column shows who includes it free, and it can be switched on from the Columns control.
